Its ancestors came to our lands more than 500 years ago, with the Spanish conquerors, and they had to pass a large period of natural selection where the most courageous and resistant to this environment survived and reproduced themselves. This process gave to the creole horse the characteristics of resistance, rusticity and power of recovery, fundamental pillars that distinguish it from the rest of the equine breeds of the world, adding to this a great genetic variability.
Recently declared untouchable cultural heritage of the República Oriental del Uruguay, it is intimately linked to our history.
It was a fundamental actor in the periods of the battles for the independence and the national consolidation, being an essential factor in the economic, social and cultural development of our country through the daily work of our country men.
The work made by the S.C.C.C.U. and its members along the years, allows to have today an animal of solid racial quality, with a functional biotype of great versatility that detaches by its intelligence, docility and cowly condition, which added to the previously mentioned qualities of resistance and rusticity, make the Creole Horse the best choice when you are looking for a work horse, rein ability, riding or long breath competitions.

Inscription methodology
The genealogic registers of the breed are collected by ARU and date from 1929.
A simple methodology, gives the best warranty on the inscription of stallions and their genealogy.
It is done by filling a form or by Internet before 90 days after the animal is born, and it must include its name – sex – birth date – RP - name and SBU (Uruguayan Stud Book) of the father and mother.
With the stallion numbered and previous to weaning, an inspector from ARU makes a report by the mothers feet, checking the hair and particular signs.
The horses born outside Uruguay can perfectly well be inscribed in the ARU registers, via Internet, giving to the products the same value of an animal born in the country. Once a year, an ARU technician will coordinate a visit to the stud to make the report of the stallions inscribed outside the country the same that the ones born in the country.

The Horse Ride
In February, during four days, the creole family gathers in an atmosphere of friendship and fraternal socializing to enjoy horse and nature.
The “Monte de los Ombùes”, the “Fortaleza de Santa Teresa”, the Cabo Polonio, Aguas Dulces, San Miguel and many other places of our Rochean coast, gives it a matchless frame.

Inspections
During March, technicians of the Society travel around the country inspecting the animals that are at least three years old in the current year and that were previously inscribed in different concentrations.
In the inspection, it is evaluated that the animals enter the racial standard, proceeding afterwards to control their height that must range between 1,38m to 1,50m in females and 1,40m to 1,50m in males. The result is an animal accepted that will be marked with a U, with an oval – failed (being able to present again) or eliminated.
The inspection is compulsory for the use of all animals as reproducers, safe the sons of mother and father definitive, and necessary in the 100 % of cases to participate in any SCCCU activity or sponsored by it.

It includes several stages that give score along the year and sum until we reach the National Champion Horseman, Horse and Stud.
Resistance March
The SCCCU was the first one to organize marches of long run, that have as an objective to show and select characteristics of resistance, rusticity and power of recovery. After a previous concentration of 30 days, the competitors start on the road traveling along 750 km during 15 days with the only intake of natural grass. During the marching, there are disputed many stages: regulated timing stages, semi-regulated timing stages and moving free stages.

The sites change every year, taking this way the March to every corner of Uruguay . The selection work made for years in this aspect, makes the national bloods a true genetic bank of invaluable importance for our breed.
